Let me dream a house for you
As you can see, this is a public entry.
I've been somewhat inspired by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe's approach to architecture so...I'd like to get some practice. Even if I am currently working in an architectural office, I am still not free to design a building however I like. It is still after all, my boss' office and therefore, whatever he says goes. Sad to say, I don't agree with him in all things. 'Course I can't tell him that.
So to remedy that...in order to not lose whatever style I have, I'd like to design dream houses for anyone who's interested. For free. My only conditions are:
1. Since I'm doing it in my meager free time, it will probably take long for me to complete a project.
2. Any mention of complimentary words for Art Nouveau, Mediterranean, Victorian and Classical shall be trampled on and spat upon. And let's be practical here, even though I'd like to I will never have enough time to detail a gothic style villa.
3. I call the houses that I'd like to make. Sorry to those I don't find interesting or challenging enough. I'll inform you though, just leave your e-mail.
4. All the designs are mine. I'll copyright it because I know how. Hahaha!
And this is all you have to do.
1. Tell me the style you like. Tropical, Modern, Asian, Industrial, Brutalist, Expressionist...whatever. Or the style-fusion you like.
2. Rooms. Do you want 12 bedrooms for the harem of man whores you're building? A cozy den? An olympic size jacuzzi? whatever.
3. Personal preferences. Do you like light, airy rooms or do you have a secret fantasy of living like Fred Flintstone? Size. Color. Oh and yeah, the climate of where your dreamhouse will be built. Circular baths. That sorta stuff.

ako, ako, ako! since we're in the process of buying our house and all. eheheh...
1. style? erm, Asian Modern comfortable? XDDD
2. ah, rooms. hm, let's see... 6 bedrooms, 3 baths (2 with tubs), tv room, library, verandah... (takes the ball and runs away with it...)
3. i'm a bit claustrophobic, so light+airy+large rooms=win. gah. eheheh. usap nga tayo! XDDD
Actually, I want a library. A cozy one. Ipapa-renovate kasi 'yung library namin dito sa bahay, and, well, I've been looking for someone who can design one for me for like, two years now. :p Pwede pati 'yung shelves? :P
Oh, and by the way, I'm doing work on spatial trauma, and I've been meaning to ask you for help. Would you point me to some readings, designs, etc.? Anything on traumatic spaces, or spaces which (can) cause trauma. Pero I'm focusing on the former sana, 'yung space sana ang considered traumatised (i.e. disruptions, fragmentations, etc.).
I've been thinking of focusing on bridges (maybe the current foot bridges we have?) for physical and metaphorical trauma, say, showing excesses (the structures themselves and the people who actually inhabit these structures). Parang ganu'n po. Sorry for the excessive comment, too. :p
Any help/suggestion/comment will do! Thanks muchly!
of chic pieces of furniture that exist.
Traumatized areas? I'm afraid I can't give you any titles because I very seldom read abuot theory of architecture and spaces (a dault which I'm sure I will regret during the board exam) BUT I can give examples of those kinds of areas.
Do you know the small sorta historical hotel in Roxas Blvd.? It's in the corner of one road and Roxas. I think it's either Neo-classical or Art Nouveau. It used to be famous but the thing is it's now abandoned and it has some squatters. I also think that the buildings left unfinished during the Marcos regime are traumatized areas. Focusing on the bridges seems like a great idea too. It's always a chore using them. There's the old woman, the rugby boys, vendors hanging up their merchandise so they block the light etc. Ah, and don't forget the areas under bridges where people squat.
What's yours?
In any case, can I take you up on your offer? Hehe.. I haven't touched a drafting table in a year.
O eto.
- preferably a 2-storey, 4-bedroom (one is the maid's), 3 t&b place, 2-car garage thingy...
- Master's bedroom with a walk-in closet (his and hers). T&B with a tub and shower (jacuzi?? whoooo!!)
- all other bedrooms with built-in closets
- a common veranda/terrace on the 2nd floor with a view (?)
- big windows! Window-seats!! (para akong pusa e, mahilig mamintana...)
- a den/library to house our books/toy collection, as well as our video games, DVD collection. With a tv to watch it all on ofcourse. preferably with space for a minibar and a table where we could play card games.
- a shared office that is big enough for 2 people to work in. My bf and I both need space for our separate PCs/random stuff.
- big kitchen with a walk-in pantry and lots of storage and counter space (I love to cook!)
- a lanai for guests/coffee/lazy afternoons/pets
- a small garden
bahala ka na sa laundry, etc.
Here's the thing though... I love big, airy, open spaces and high ceilings. My bf on the other hand, prefers snug and cozy little nooks and corners.
We both agree on the big windows, the lanai and the backyard.
We also like being a bit artsy-fartsy. Having something slightly quirky or unique is a thrill. Weird color palettes that somehow look good. Juxtaposed stained glass panels, etc. Beams that you can hang unique lamps from. Bohemian? -ish?
we love lamps and yellow light (we also both have migraine so flourescent light is literally a headache. hehehe!!)
Lots of light and air is definitely a go.
We love beanbags and plopping onto big pillows on the floor. We plan to have pets though.
--------
hehe.... i like this. I feel like Prof. Ventura all of a sudden. XD XD
I have a vague idea of how Bohemian will look like...I'll research about this too.
We will have to find a middle ground for your and your bf's preferences.
In the Mies' words: We don't teach them solutions; we teach them a way to solve problems.
